In the melee, four persons were feared killed and over 50 people injured.
About 20 vehicles were vandalized during the clash by the factional gangs, who were fighting over toll collection at a plank bridge linking Ajao Estate with Ejigbo area of the state.

Over100 houses were also raided by the hoodlums during the free-for-all as they cashed in on the crisis to rob residents of the areas.
Lagos has recorded an upsurge of gang clashes in recent times, which had claimed about 50 lives. Affected areas include Lagos Island, Palmgrove, Iyana Ipaja and Obalende.

Trouble started on Monday night when a member of a faction of the street urchins, who was collecting N10 toll from pedestrians crossing from Ajao Estate to Ejigbo, had a disagreement with an Igbo man simply identified as Chukwuma.
Chukwuma was said to have given the Area boy N1, 000 note and was asked to come back to collect his balance of N990.

He was, however denied of his balance on his return, a development that made him raise the alarm.
His alarm was said to have attracted members of other faction of the Area boys, who claimed that it was their right to collect the toll. In the process, they engaged the other faction in a serious argument.
But angered by the action of Chukwuma, a member of the faction that was owing him N990 hit him with an object, which made him to slump and died instantly.

It was at this point that the two factions engaged themselves in a serious fight that later led to the death of one of them simply identified as Jamiu. Many others were said to have been injured.
The faction that lost Jamiu later regrouped and stormed the Mafoluku area for a reprisal attack at the wee hour of yesterday.

However, members of the opposing gang were said to have anticipated the reprisal and engaged their attackers, which led to the loss of another three lives.
Residents said dangerous weapons like guns, machetes, broken bottles and cudgels were freely used by the hoodlums. At the end of the clash, 20 vehicles were vandalized with over 100 houses raided by the hoodlums.
As at Press time, many residents of the areas have fled their homes for fear of fresh attack.
Few residents, who spoke with Daily Sun on condition of anonymity, pleaded with the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yakubu Alkali and Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) to come to their aid as they were not sure of what would happen next.

A resident, who simply identified himself as Kabiru, appealed to the state government to sack the hoodlums from the pedestrian bridge, saying they have made life miserable to the people of the two areas.
Kabiru, who claimed he received a machete cut for refusing to open the door of his house to the hoodlums, who were making house-to-house raid, wondered why the police did not respond on time during the attack.
Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Jaiyeoba Joseph, confirmed the incident, but said only one person was killed. He said the police were on top of the situation as the areas have been taken over, urging residents to remain calm as the situation is under control.

Pastor Olusegun Obasanjo (ex-president of Nigeria)

It was praises and thanksgiving all the way as members of the Chapel of Christ The Glorious King (CCGK), a church founded by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, celebrated its third anniversary recently.

Amid dancing, drumming and singing, the former president was full of praises to God, saying he was divinely directed to establish the church. He also expressed his gratitude to the invited guests, who honoured his invitation.

Obasanjo also appreciated members of the church, a spacious and fully air-conditioned facility within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion included boardroom mogul, Chief Gamaliel Onosode, with his wife, former governors of Osun and Ekiti States, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Engr. Segun Oni as well as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State in the last elections, Gen. Tunji Olurin (retd.).

Others were Senator Ayo Arise, Dr. Austin Ifenayi Chukwu Epunam, President and founder of Sweet Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation
The former president, supported by his wife and well-wishers, said: “I want to thank you for dancing. I want to thank you for your generous donation. I believe that any church of God in addition to preaching evangelism must lift souls and help others.

While thanking God for taking the church and the congregation this far in the past three years, Obasanjo charged the congregation not to relent in evangelism as well as in touching lives.
Rev. Dr. Gold Amie, Assistant General Secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, in his sermon, said a church must stand firm on the rock of Jesus Christ.

According to him, the time for bread and butter Christianity is over. “The church that is moving must be a living church. In church administration, we don’t define the church in terms of organisation or structure, but we define it in terms of organism which lives, moves, grows and matures.
“The church grows; it is a living organism. It multiplies by binary fusion and it lives forever. And if it is the body of Christ as indicated here, that church must be a living church.”

He added that because a church of God must grow, it must diversify into other areas of evangelism and ministry. “It may seem to be slow. It can’t be static, but the growth of the church is steady because it is found on Christ.
“If this is a living church, it has its obligation to grow; it must grow by leaps and bounds from now to eternity, developing people, lives, giving help and concern to people who need to have them.”

Speaking on the menace of Boko Haram in the country, the Baptist Secretary said: “We don’t pray for it, but let me say that what is happening up North can happen in the south. We are not immune, so let us be watchful.”
He recalled that the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) said that Christians of today should learn to defend themselves.

“That has been misinterpreted by many people in many ways. We keep saying that we are not sending you to war, to retaliate. But definitely, you can’t fold your alms and see somebody come to your house, chop your neck and that of your children and do nothing.”

Sounding a note of warning, Amie said: “I think the life we have is a gift from God. We are stewards of such lives and we must take adequate care of such lives because we are made in the image of God.” He urged Christians to remain prayerful.

Speaking on the need for Christians to always assist others, he said: “As Christians, whatever you give or donate to a church for evangelism or developing others is not a waste, because in giving, you are not giving to a human being.”
Using his example, he said God picked him from the dustbin and turned him into what he had become today. “I am one of those people that people would say had no backbone. But Jesus Christ lifted me up.

“You can never tell who your money will groom, or make someone. For Christ’s sake, touch the life of someone today, and I can tell you that you will never regret it. A moving church can’t be pulled down by the gates of hell.
“Only three years, we have seen marvellous things. By the time it clocks ten, we will have more wonderful things. Jesus Christ is the chief corner stone of the church,” he concluded even as the congregation gave him a thunderous applause.
Big names like D’banj, Banky W, Flavour, Wizkid and Don Jazzy came under attack yesterday, as hackers threatened to ‘expose you all’.

As if to show their seriousness, the hacker(s) took over Flavour’s official handle @flavournabania for several minutes, embarking on a tweeting spree and totally compromising the act’s account
What was the first thing Flavour’s attackers did? They immediately replaced his image a with random nude picture and changed his user name to ‘Hacked’. The handle @flavournabania was however not tampered with.
‘#Hacked #Hacked #Hacked’, the tweets read. ‘We’ve had access to this account for a while. We’ve had access to so many other celeb Twitter and Facebook accounts’, more tweets read.
The hackers say over 30 celebs accounts (Twitter and Facebook) have been hacked and that they will ‘expose’ them all.
‘oh @iamDbanj’s account was the easiest to get into. Dumb password. @Don Jazzyis next, @2faceidibia also…Banky W then @wizkidayo Must be hacked!!!! We’ll expose you all.’.
Flavour’s account has since been suspended; and Don Jazzy, an ardent Tweeter with over 200,000 followers became immediately concerned. ‘Kai if them hack my haccount hi go cry o. I dey beg o. i don delete halllllll my DM sha dey wait’, he tweeted.bibihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05455980993610416375noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492615123407396094.post-42874058086438075872012-02-28T07:06:00.000-08:002012-02-28T07:06:05.044-08:00NIGERIAN PASTORS BLAST PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME FOR ENDORSING MASTURBATION!

Pastors in Nigeria have lambasted the founder, Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome over his comment that self-service is not a sin against God but a mere habit that God is not angry about.
Since the controversial pastor made the comment recently, angry reactions have been pouring in from
Christendom over what they called heresy, being preached by the pastor, which negates the words of God.
Oyakhilome was asked by one of his pastors how one could overcome self-service and he replied that “the reason you are thinking of stopping it.
(self-service) is because you think it has become a habit for you… self-service is not more than a habit than any other habit.
“So once you make up your mind that you want to break a particular habit, you just do it, you make up your mind… in fact the best way to break a habit is to replace it with another habit.
“There is one thing I would like to bring to your mind that may be of help to you because the reason you are thinking of stopping this is because of what you think it is.”
He added that “no matter how wrong you think this is in your mind, get this straight, in itself, it is not a sin against God,” emphasising that as a result of this belief that it is a sin, Satan used it to oppress people of God “making them feel ineffective an inefficient in the things of God.”
Reacting to Oyakhilome’s comment, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Ola Makinde said there was only one way of Being Intimate permitted by God in the Bible, which is only through marriage.
“There is only one way of Being Intimate in the Bible which is natural. self-service is unnatural and unethical. Whatever is unnatural and unethical is abomination. I leave him to his own opinion,” he said.

According to Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly, every believer must be able to subject his body to control because it could lead to something else.
Popular Evangelist, Pastor Akin Fasawe said self-service is a sin as stipulated in the Bible, saying that death was even recommended in the Bible for those who practiced such things.
“self-service is a sin because when you self-service, you will release. If the minister of God said self-service is not a sin, he can easily tell his church that fornication is not a sin. The Bible recommends death in the Old Testament,” he stated.
According to Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Church, it is stated clearly in the Bible that self-service is a sin against God.
“That is his own view. Where did he see it in the Bible that self-service is not a sin? Maybe he has his own Bible. It is a bad thing. Maybe it is in his Bible,” he laughed.
Pastor Akin Akande of the Men of Purpose Ministry stated that self-service is a sin.
“It is like abusing the gift of God. It is heresy. The Bible says it is a sin to derive pleasure outside the content of marriage,” he added.
Pastor Leke Akinola of the Upper Room Baptist, said self induced self-service is a sin against God and that it is heresy for any minister of God to say it is not a sin.
According to Rev. Sam Ogedengbe, “self-service is a sin and it is unbiblical. It is demonic and anyone engaging in it should know that it has spiritual connection.”
I heard from some very reliable sources that former model, actress and producer, Blessing Effiom-Egbe, who produced the hit movie – ‘Two Brides & a Baby’ is suing Silverbird Cinemas to the tune of N500 million!
According to Blessing,
Blessing said she was told the film had stopped screening in all cinemas of 13th of January only for her to discover it was not the case as the film continued to screen well into February! She has contacted her lawyer and is suing Silverbird for N500 million naira. They are yet to respond to her.bibihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05455980993610416375noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492615123407396094.post-55973475291188890222012-02-28T06:24:00.000-08:002012-02-28T06:24:29.811-08:00STEALING! Atiku Abubabarka breaks the eerie silence of most Northern politicians like Mohammadu Buhari.

A former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has urged members of the Boko Haram to embrace the opportunity offered for dialogue with the Federal Government in the interest of unity, stability and economic development of the country.

Abubakar made the call against the backdrop of renewed attacks by members of the sect in Jos and Gombe, which had led to scores of death over the weekend.
The former vice-president, who spoke on Monday in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja, said no one would take the group or its agenda seriously when it continued to remain faceless.
He said it was high time the group stepped out to articulate its grievances and thereby opening a window for dialogue.
He reiterated his earlier position that there could be no justification for the killings of Nigerians under any guise.
Abubakar decried the killings and destruction of property, noting that the activities of Boko Haram amounted to a declaration of war on the Nigerian state.
He said, “If Boko Haram and its leadership have something to say; if they have any grouse against the Nigerian state, the proper thing for them is to come out in flesh and state it, so that a process of dialogue that will eventually lead to the resolution of the crisis and the siege on Nigerians can commence in earnest.”
He expressed his condolences to the affected families and governments and people of Plateau and Gombe over the weekend killings in Jos and Gombe.bibihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05455980993610416375noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492615123407396094.post-33177181350104158442012-02-28T06:00:00.000-08:002012-02-28T06:00:31.816-08:00WOMAN SEDUCES MEN, THEN SENDS ROBBERS AFTER THEM!

The item was found at about 4.00am by a police inspector.
Those, who were around at the time of the discovery took to their heels for fear that they might likely be blown up by the suspected explosive device.

Following the alarm that was raised, police bomb disposal officer in charge of Seme border, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Humphrey Ogedengbe was alerted by the police inspector.
Police preliminary examination revealed that the items contained in the bag were a wall clock with two batteries, and positive and negative wires, attached to it as well as iron suspected to be fuel pump unrapped to look like a bomb.
Daily Sun learnt that the police bomb unit would hold a major meeting with all the security agencies, including Customs, Immigration, State Security Service and the police operating at the border.

It was gathered that some early morning travellers to and from Republic of Benin abandoned their vehicles and goods, and scampered for safety when the news of suspected bomb was broken.
Also, residents of the area took to their heels when the news reached them while passengers in nearby motor parks shelved their trip.

However, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-Bomb Unit, Ambrose Aisabor, described the discovery as a hoax by mischief-makers who did not want peace in the country.
Aisabor said the object found in a black polythene bag was made up of a wall clock, batteries and some wires designed to look as explosive device.
He said his men tested the object only to find out that it was a hoax designed by mischief-makers to cause unnecessary panic.

He advised members of the public to go about their normal businesses as the force was on the ground and would rise to any eventuality.
Meanwhile, Islamist religious extremists, Boko Haram sect has spread its tentacles to Cameroun, Nigeria’s neighbour to the east, giving rise to panic among the populace.
According to a Cameroun-based religious journal, Ecumenical News International, ENInews religious authorities in the country had warned their people against accepting the teachings of Boko Haram that was responsible for killing of about 450 people in Nigeria in 2011.

In the latest incident, four policemen were shot dead on February 23 in the northern Nigerian towns of Kano and Minna, where the people were now gripped by fear of incessant attacks by the violent group.
The President of the Cameroun Association of Imams, Sheik Ibrahim Mbombo Mubarak said he was concerned that some Moslem leaders had welcomed the ‘hate doctrine’ and had allowed Boko Haram faithful to preach in their mosques.
“The number-one and number-three strongmen of the sect, Mohamed Nour and Mohamed Kahirou are from Cameroun … So they came back when they were chased from Nigeria and have been spreading their recorded messages and ideology,” he said during a meeting with administrative authorities in Douala, Cameroun’s commercial centre. He said he believes regulation of religious groups might be an answer.
“Religions are practiced without any authorization and that’s how these extremist movements are gaining ground in Cameroun,” Mubarak said.

Regulating the sector would have made it difficult for such hate groups to establish themselves in a country that prides itself on maintaining long periods of peace, he explained. Camerounian state radio reported that the Lamido of Garoua, a Moslem leader, exhorted the faithful to “stick to the basics of Islam … We understand our Islam and we don’t heed those who think they understand this religion better than us.”

In a similar warning note, the Archbishop of Douala, Msgr. Samuel Kleda, said during an ecumenical service for peace in Cameroun that the Boko Haram doctrine is “anti-social … it is against the abiding love of our saviour,” according to a local weekly newspaper, Timescape Journal.

Camerounian scholar Gilbert L. Taguem Fah, writing in a recent book about new Islamic dynamics in the country, said that there is a danger Boko Haram could spread its “extremist, intolerant and violent ideology” to cities as far south as Douala, which he said is an important centre of Islamic expansion.

Political leaders have said they are concerned that poverty in Cameroun, where 40 per cent of the population lives on less than one dollar per day, could make Boko Haram attractive to many people, especially in the north.
A visit to Lagdo, in Cameroun’s far north, revealed that villagers have seen people with long beads and red or black headscarves (outfits that Boko Haram followers wear), in the area.

“They came here and told me that all our problems are caused by Western education and Western ideas,” a resident of Lagdo, Oumarou Djam, told ENInews, casting a furtive glance around.
“They also said they will give me a lot of money if I joined their group. They looked dangerous, so I lied that I would consider their proposal. I am afraid that they may come again,” he said.
The world has gone beyond the days of delayed messages via post offices — if they still exist– with a wave of text messaging.

However, as good and important as this means of communication is, researchers have found that text messaging has a negative impact on people’s ability to interpret and accept words. The report, published in the February 6 issue of ScienceDaily, is the result of a study conducted by Joan Lee at the University of Calgary, Canada for her master’s thesis in linguistics.

It reveals that those who send texts more were less accepting of new words. On the other hand, those who read more traditional print media such as books, magazines, and newspapers were more accepting of the same words.

Although text messaging cuts across every facet of all societies of the world, Lee concentrated on students for her research perhaps due to the fact that they are the most affected in this regards. According to the report, the researcher asked university students about their reading habits, including text messaging, and presented them with a range of words both real and fictitious.

Lee says students welcome text messaging because it enables them use language as it comes to them, “Our assumption about text messaging is that it encourages unconstrained language. But the study found this to be a myth. The people who accepted more words did so because they were better able to interpret the meaning of the word, or tolerate the word, even if they did not recognise the word. Students who reported texting more rejected more words instead of acknowledging them as possible words.”

The researcher posits that reading encourages flexibility in language use and tolerance of different words. According to her, this helps readers to develop skills that allow them to generate interpretable readings of new or unusual words, which is lacking in text messaging. She suggests that reading traditional print media exposes people to variety and creativity in language that is not found in the colloquial peer-to-peer text messaging used among youths or as she says ‘generation text’.

She says, “In contrast, texting is associated with rigid linguistic constraints which caused students to reject many of the words in the study, this was surprising because there are many unusual spellings or “textisms” such as “LOL” in text messaging language. Textisms represent real words which are commonly known among people who text. But many of the words presented in the study are not commonly known and were not acceptable to the participants in the study who texted more or read less traditional print media.”

In an online survey by edutopia.org, on the topic, ‘Does text messaging harm students’ writing skills?’ also, more than half of the respondents gave an affirmative answer. The 54 per cent respondents gave the answer that “students are carrying over the writing habits they pick up through text messaging into school assignments.”

However, as negative as frequent texting may appear, yet another study has found that it helps women to express themselves better. In the 2009 article published in a quarterly journal, Written Communication, professors from Indiana University, United States found that while men historically talk more in public settings, when the exchanges occur via text messaging in public it is the women who use more abbreviations and insertions, and who implement more emoticons such as smiling and frowning.

The researchers, Susan Herring and Asta Zelenkauskaite, found, after looking at 1,164 gender-defined messages posted on-screen during the real-time Italian music video programme, that women used more non-standard language such as abbreviations or expressive insertions that represented characteristics, including enthusiasm, sadness, emphasis and individuality. And while women were both more economical and expressive, they also came closer to maxing out, or did max out, on the 160-character message limit more often than their male counterparts.

The researchers, according to the study, expected findings consistent with past research on gender-patterned public communication, which predicted men would post more and longer text messages, and that men would also employ more non-standard techniques. But instead, the opposite was true when it came to communication within a new, convergent medium that mixes interactive television with SMS or texting.

The study concludes that when men and women send text messages to one another in a public, interactive dating market, like the Internet, it is the women who use more non-standard, expressive language techniques.

Effects of addictive text messaging
-Inability to talk to the people next to you; a majority of teens about 57 per cent view their cell phone as the key to their social life. Teens admitted spending nearly an equal amount of time talking as they do texting each month. The feature is so important to them that if texting were no longer an option 47 per cent of teens say their social life would end or be worsened — that’s especially so among females.
-Privacy is taken away (must always text back, etiquette)
-Similar muscle problems that can arise due to repetitive typing on a keyboard. Texting could cause significant pain in the thumbs.
-Sleep problems. Many teenagers keep their phones on and near their beds at night. Constant texting can cause them to wake up frequently and never settle into a deep sleep.
-Inability to shut down outside communication. Texting puts people in instant contact, and there is an outward societal influence that makes everyone think they need to be accessible at all times. A text message warrants a response as soon as possible. Plus, teenagers often feel an inherent need to know what is going on with their friends and people they know; text messaging puts them in touch instantly with the latest happenings, which may be a distraction.
-Decreased attention span. Text messages allow teenagers to communicate in places where cell phones are not allowed, primarily school. It is fairly easy to hide a cell phone and text, and texting teenagers are usually not focusing on the lesson at hand.bibihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05455980993610416375noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492615123407396094.post-39675535879321234202012-02-27T09:04:00.000-08:002012-02-27T09:04:47.629-08:00KILLER FATHER SURRENDERS TO POLICE!

Weeks after being on the run for allegedly flogging his daughter to death in Warri, Delta State, 34-year-old Becklin Okoro has finally surrendered himself to the police.
After killing her, Okoro allegedly took her body to the Warri Central Hospital Mortuary and disappeared thereafter.
The 25-year-old mother of the deceased, Esther Uremure, a hair dresser said she reported the incident at “A” Division Police Station.
She accused Okoro of also beating her. She said, “There was a time he beat me up in the presence of the two children I had for him. He comes here every day to make trouble. He comes to the salon to harass me.”
Our correspondent, however, learnt that the suspect was arrested by the police when he turned himself in on Friday.
It was also learnt that Okoro walked into the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Warri, to make a formal statement as to the circumstances leading to the death of her daughter.
Though, the spokesman for the police in the state, Mr. Charles Muka, said he had not been briefed on the latest development, a police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed it.
He said, “The man came here on Friday morning, saying he had come to report the matter involving the death of his daughter. He said his neighbour flogged the child to death and not himself.
“The suspect said he dumped the child in the mortuary before he went to work and that he never ran away. He said he had been away to the village to see his parents.”
On why he did not report the matter to the police when he discovered that his neighbour had killed his daughter, the suspect allegedly said he was afraid of police trouble.
“He also begged that he should be allowed to pick up the baby’s corpse for burial,” the source added.
Our correspondent learnt that Okoro was first held in the police cell before he was moved from Warri on Saturday morning to the police Headquarters in Asaba where he is now helping the police in their investigations.

Ojukwu is expected to be buried on March 2.
The Chairman of the LOC, Mr. Dubem Obaze, said in Awka on Sunday that women with handbags would also not be allowed into the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka where the ceremonies would take place for security reasons.
Although Obaze did not give any reason for the decision to bar MASSOB from the ceremonies, our correspondent learnt that the LOC feared some of the members of the group could attack some of the personalities invited from across the country.
He said only security agencies like the Police, Army, Navy, Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps and the Federal Road Safety Corps would provide security.
He said commercial motorcycle and rickshaw operators would also be barred from operating around the venue for the ceremonies.
Obaze said the decision to thoroughly search and check people to be allowed into the venue was informed by the security situation in the country.
He said all markets in Anambra and Enugu states would be shut on March 1, while markets across the country controlled by Ndigbo would be closed on March 2 in honour of Ojukwu.
The LOC chairman said there would be a public holiday in Anambra the day Ojukwu’s corpse would arrive from Enugu.
However, MASSOB’ Director of Information, Mr. Uchenna Madu, told our correspondent that irrespective of the ban on the movement from the activities in Awka, MASSOB would fully participate in burial programmes.
He said, “Most of these ceremonies are not mandatory. Every Igbo group will organise its own programmes in its own peculiar way.
“Some people are afraid that there will be a bloody confrontation between MASSOB and the security agencies. We expect the security agencies to behave maturely. Let’s jointly honour Ojukwu.
“We don’t want to make any trouble. We still love the security agencies despite the fact that they are oppressing us.”
