All-night blasts rock Borno • 7 men butchered

Residents of Maiduguri, Borno State capital were kept awake till the early hours of yesterday as deafening blasts occured in different parts of the city, while butchered bodies of seven men were later found at a location within the metropolis.


The midnight blast occurred at different locations almost six times, while residents around the areas were gripped with fears throughout the night. “Honestly, I could not sleep because the blasts continue till the early hours of the day. Gun shots also followed intermittently,” one of the residents told Daily Sun.

Daily Sun gathered that unknown assailants at Kawar Maila Area slaughtered seven men. Shehuri North in Maiduguri at about 12 midnights on Wednesday. It was gathered that the assailants numbering about four stormed the area, knocked doors of the selected houses and brought out their targets before they were butchered.

Residents of the area identified one of the victims, Zannah Mamman, alias Goi Goi as a driver at the governor’s office. He was allegedly killed in the presence of his wife, while another one was also identified as Baba Gana Shettima. Most streets around the area were deserted, as most of the houses around the area were affected by the incident.

Confirming the incident, spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt Colonel Hassan Ifijeh Mohammed said explosion occurred from Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the early hours of yesterday morning in Maiduguri metropolis, while some unexploded IEDs were defused by the JTF.” He however said no casualty recorded.
Commenting on the midnight killing, he said six and not seven were slaughtered

It said the task force would continue to be proactive in dealing with the Boko Haram issue.
