Give al Mustapha state pardon...OPC leader, Fasheun

Frederick Fasheun, the Founding father of Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC),has recommended a state pardon for the condemned former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Head of State, Sani Abacha,  Major Hamza Al-Mustapha who has been sentenced to death by hanging, even as Boko Haram had threatened to set the whole country on fire if al Mustapha is executed.
Giving his reasons why
he felt state pardon was a better option; Fasheheun stated that such action will “halt discord and tension that may be generated as a result of the death sentence”.
It would be recalled that Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos High Court had in her earlier verdict passed a death sentence on Al-Mustapha for working together with others to kill Kudirat Abiola, the renowned female activist and wife of the late Abiola.
Al-Mustapha had through his Lawyer appealed against the verdict. However,Fasheun had considered the verdict to be too political with a lot of sentiments attached.
“To me this is political judgment. I can understand why a fellow citizen would be incarcerated for close to 13 years without bail and the next thing we heard was that he has been sentenced to death. To me this is unfair and sentimental,” he said
